Waterways divide and mountains unite, they say in the area around Badalucco. To overcome the water obstacle, nothing better than a bridge. Here we are talking about bridges that are anything but anonymous, soulless concrete constructions. Like this 16th-century bridge, made of stone and lime, next to the chapel of Santa Lucia. Understated arches, a powerful pier, immense resistance. Another bridge, that of the Madonna dei Dolori (Our Lady of Sorrows), looks like an archway hanging in the void, a marvel of lightness. This too is made of stone and lime, but with incredible craftsmanship, making us wonder how many extraordinary bridges are still hidden from our view. Bridges that are worth a trip and that invite you to…walk inside them, not over them.
